"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."
- Elizabeth Kübler-Ross
What a fabulous way to describe our journey to who we have become as well as our connection to our true selves and to the divine. As humans we try to “sparkle and shine” when we are growing up. What I mean by this is that we spend time throughout our lives seeking acceptance from outside ourselves ”when the sun is out”. We want parents, teachers, friends, and even strangers to like us, to not abandon us, to think we have value.
As we grow up, many of us begin to realize that the “stained-glass windows” which use to “sparkle and shine” from the outside, now feel dirty and dull. The things we did to get others to love us, no longer work. If one of the ways we got to “sparkle and shine” was by taking care of others and being nice, we now come to realize many times that we are being nice and others are actually using us or taking advantage of our kindness.
Here at The Estuary and The School of Healing Arts, we offer a loving and safe place to explore your true beauty. We learn to “clean off the places which have become dirty and dull over time, and allow the light of your authentic self to shine from within. The true beauty of discovering our light from within is the knowing that it doesn’t matter if it’s bright and sunny or dark and storming outside of us. Our light from within is ALWAYS there and shining.
