Living in the Future, by Jenny Emerson, LMFT, LMT

Have you ever clung to the verse Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."  The word prosper is very alluring. What if the plans for me are to be wealthy? Wow, I can't wait for that!  How about you?

When first reading this verse we are lead to believe that there is something great out there ahead of us. But what about the way things are today? For you see, today is yesterday's future. This is it! We are already living in hope. These are not things to work towards, to reach for. They are already here and are happening in our lives, right now, in this moment.

Look around you. Is life so bad right now? Do you have clothes on? Did you drink clean water today? Do you have food to eat? Have you looked at someone today and smiled? I realize there are many in our city, country and world who struggle to have these things. But if you aren't one of them, what are you doing to help them prosper as well?

Prosper doesn't have to mean lots of zeros at the end of your paycheck. Prospering really is the ability to grow into another day. When we step into that realization, we can experience so much peace.
