Detox, by Maureen Doyle, MAT

I just had an ionic foot detox last week.  This process is supposed to release the toxins from the body and whether or not it was successful, I have to say that it was a nice treat to have my feet relax in warm water for 45 minutes.  As I closed my eyes and enjoyed a moment of stillness, I could not help but wonder about the importance of not only detoxing my physical body but also detoxing my mind.  Our world is so busy and filled with so much noise, surely a detox from it would be just as refreshing.

Where would I begin? Detox from my phone and the constant beeps, rings, and melodies that arise from it constantly. Detox from TV and the plethora of news programs that seem to compete with one another on which topic can be the most disturbing.  Finally detox from the thoughts in my mind that run wild if unchecked and unexamined.

My goal was simple – to create a few extra minutes each day of deliberate living – deliberate quiet from the outside world and deliberate quiet from my own mind.

Being deliberate with my day, my thoughts, and my phone, puts me back in charge and allows me to take those precious moments each day to detox, to rejuvenate, to center myself and create my daily experience instead of having my experience created for me by others.  And in those moments, taking several deep breaths, being thankful for the many blessings that I have.

How about you? Do you need a detox?
